Newmarket winger Juan Goity made his debut for Germany in front of 2000 spectators in the Olympic stadium in Berlin last Saturday. The fixture against a Welsh Clubs XV was a warm up game for the German national side before the start of the European Division 1 championship.

Goity from Argentina has dual nationality joined the Newmarket club this season from Puerto Madryn in Argentina was selected to start on the wing.

A tight first half saw Germans who are currently ranked 25th in the world leading by 9 points to 8 at the interval, however the Welsh side imposed themselves more in the second period and added three further tries after the interval, with a solitary try in response by the hosts. Goity who played for the first 65 mins of the game before giving way to Pyrasch from the Hannover Club, felt pleased with his debut.’I made a couple of mistakes but also made some good decisions and I was happy with how it went.’

Newmarket coach Dave Sayer was quick to add his congratulations, ‘Juan thoroughly deserves his recognition, he always works hard at his game and the whole club is pleased for his success, it is also a statement of where we hope to take the club that we have been able to attract a player like Juan to Newmarket.’
